A fly imitating the larva of the stonefly, a fairly large insect. Some species of this insect are among the first to begin the process of metamorphosis in early spring, hence their name. The last metamorphosis (transformation into an adult winged individual) occurs on the shore, where the stonefly crawls out of the water. While moving along the bottom of the reservoir, the larva can be torn off by a strong current from the bottom, and then it becomes an easy prey for fish. You can catch this fly for almost the entire season, but it is most catchy in the spring and during periods of mass emergence of these insects.
