Types of fly fishing flies

In principle, the fly fly is no different from the artist's painting or the composer's musical work. Here also the key role is played by skill, imagination, accuracy, accuracy, aesthetics…

Fly fishing is an art, and a fly is an essential part of it. All flies are classified into several main categories: dry, wet, emergers, nymphs and streamers.

Dry flies

Classics in all their beauty. Many fly fishermen from Western Europe are caught exclusively on dry fly and at the same time believe that there is no alternative. For our conditions, you can use a dry fly from spring, early and evening in summer and throughout the day in autumn. Dry flies can be divided into larger trout flies (Stimulator, Elk Hair Caddis, Royal Coachman), smaller grayling (Cleanhammer, Cdc Mayfly, Caddis), and chub (Beatle, Red Tag, Wasp, Hopper). However, this does not mean that the "stimulator" will not be tempted by grayling and chub, or trout will not go to the "red tag".

There is no more beautiful moment in the world of fly fishing than the spectacle when a fish rises from the bottom and attacks a small dry fly at the speed of light. You have less than a second not to let her know that the fly is not alive. The chances are equal - either you or the fish ... In a word - a classic!

Emergers

A special category of flies. Edgers imitate insects that are ready to break away from the bottom, swim to the surface and spread their wings. This short stage of hatching never goes unnoticed by the fish, which simply goes mad from this process. It should be noted that there is no point in using emergers all the time.

This category of flies is useful when circles appear on the water but no fish splashes are visible. As a rule, emergers are made of CDC material, so that the "bottom" of the fly is under the surface film, and the "top" remains above it. Accordingly, such a fly is well visible. Believe me, the timely use of emergers will not disappoint you.

Wet flies

Rains are a common phenomenon in our country. But do not hide from him during active fishing! At such moments, a wet fly helps, because many insects drown in water and become an easy prey for fish.

Wet fly is considered the oldest bait in fly fishing. If the dry one floats downstream, the wet fly drowns and moves in the water column. Wet flies are especially effective in autumn and summer, especially during or after rain. When choosing a bait, you should pay attention to March Brown - a versatile fly that will bring you many beautiful trout, Black Zulu, Brown Killer, as well as other fancy products on the right river.

This fly will help you at a time when the fish are inactive. The main thing is to find a place where residents can hide for a year. Due to the cord, the wet fly can be released many meters away from you or let under the bushes - so there is an opportunity to catch a careful fish. At the end of the lead and at the beginning of summer, fishing for wet flies is especially spectacular and effective.

Nymphs

Nymphs are quite young flies, given that 20 years ago there were no tungsten and brass heads, without which it is now difficult to imagine this type of bait. According to many fly fishermen, the nymph is the most catchy species of flies, because the fish feed mainly on the bottom. Today, nymphs with tungsten heads are used in the popular French method of fishing, and it is better to fish for Czech nymphs for the Czech method. For our year, it is effective to use proven nymphs: different variations of amphibians, "chocolates" and "fezentals". At different times you will be rescued by Prince Nymph, Stone Fly, Cased Caddis, as well as variants of Bloodworm.
Czech nymphs

Thanks to the use of such flies, Czech fly fishermen Jaromir Karafiat and Miroslav Makhacek became world champions. Czech nymphs are ideal flies for the mountain rivers of Ukraine. In addition to their catch, Czech nymphs are hardy - they can survive the blows of more than 50 fish and this is not the limit. Another feature of these flies is their versatility. They taste not only trout and grayling, but also plain fish, because they mimic their usual food.

Nymphs with a tungsten head

Indispensable in fly fishing boxes. Tungsten is the heaviest material used to knit nymphs. Thanks to him, the fly quickly sinks to the bottom, thus becoming a desirable prey for fish. Also, nymphs with a tungsten head are ideal for the incredibly catchy French method.

Streamers

For many fly fishermen fishing in the Carpathians, streamers are still a mystery. Some, who still managed to "bite" them, amused themselves with more than one large trout and grayling. Streamer fishing in mountain rivers is specific and unpredictable. It is important not only to find a place where the trophy can be kept, not only to pull the right fly out of the flybox, but also to guess what color or colors you need to use today. As there is currently no full-fledged streamer specialist in our region, everyone, through experimentation and practice, can become a leader in this field.

Pike streamers

Streamers made especially for catching pike. They are usually made of natural materials that are floating but move in water, imitating an unhealthy fry. Zonker-type streamers have long proven to be the best option when catching a toothy predator. But modern fly fishermen have begun to use many synthetic materials for knitting pike streamers, and they have proven themselves very well when catching a predator.
Poppers

A separate category of streamers. They mimic frogs or fry that float on the surface with a characteristic noise. Effectively use paper on the shoal, where the bottom is overgrown. Such baits attract pike and other predators.

Flies for spinning

Tired of fishing for spinners and clumsy wobblers? There is a way out! Exclusive models of flies, which are made especially for spinning. Extremely realistic flies can be used both when fishing with ultralight and more powerful sticks, because spinning streamers with jig heads will also not leave predators indifferent!

Flies on a tee

Innovative idea! Their idea is to use flies with flies for rotating spinners, papers and castmasters. To do this, remove the "naked" tee from the spinning bait and install the already "dressed". Such tees are very effective, especially when catching trout and aspen.
