The tail feathers of the common turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) are a traditional knitter material for classic feathered salmon flies, as well as classic trout flies. The tail feathers of a turkey, unlike the flight feathers, are practically symmetrical with respect to the spine of the feather, thanks to which a pair of wings of one fly can be knitted from the cutouts of one tail feather without picking up a pair. Cutouts and beards of these feathers are also suitable for making other elements of flies - legs, tails, covers of rudiments of wings.
